Bedford Charity (The Harpur Trust) Website

The Bedford Charity, part of the Harpur Trust, is involved in funding the promotion of education, the relief of hardship and the provision of recreation locally. They approached Alberon because they were looking for a re-design and update of their current site.

The brief

Earlier in the year Bedford Charity launched a new five year strategic plan with a new mission, vision and value statements. They wanted their new website to act as an effective communication tool, providing clear information about the charity and how it helps for their stakeholders, e.g. staff, parents, local residents and community groups.

It was important for the website to reflect the charity’s strong brand identity as well as show the wide range of services they provide for those in the local community.

They needed up to date features such as advanced search facilities, documents people can view online as well as download and data capture. It was also important not to have too many cutting edge features as their emphasis was on making the website as simple to use and functional as possible.

The solution

Alberon provided an engaging and straightforward website where visitors can easily locate the information they need.

After looking at Bedford’s requirements we decided to use the commercial CMS, Sitefinity, as this had many of the features they needed already built in, and further modules could be added by Alberon.

It was essential that the site could be easily maintained by administrators and promotions could be updated on the homepage as well as other pages within the site. We created a module for the charity to create their own tactical boxes, these are small boxes with images and some text. These can be added, removed, changed and placed on whatever page they would like on their site.

Technical notes

The site was built in Sitefinity CMS, using C# and SQL Server 2008 R2. The award-winning Sitefinity allows administrators to have complete control over how pages look and feel.

Alberon also built several custom modules which were easily integrated within the Sitefinity system.
