Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust Portal

The brief

Community Hospital Oxfordshire Trust (CHO) and Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (OBMH) are working towards integration. This will create the requirement to support approximately six thousand learners.

The learning & development department would like to improve the condition of its current Learning Portal, in terms of style, navigation, content and administration. They wanted the learner experience to be engaging, inspiring and reflect their department’s values – Caring, Safe & Excellent.

The site needed to provide booking functionality, storage of individual training records as well as documents this would in turn be integrated into existing backend databases. There needed to be a news and availability calendar function and have analytics and tracking software integrated into the site.

The solution

Alberon created an easy to navigate and clean looking learning portal that integrated with the current OTR system. The system allows staff to book courses and view details taken from their database on screen with the option to print. Working with their requirements we recommended that the new portal be built in a proprietary enterprise level CMS called Sitefinity which will allow staff at the OBMH trust to add and modify content within the portal.

The new portal will interact with the OTR to manage course bookings and directly with the LMS database to retrieve course details and specific course timings. Training administrators continue to use the current admin front-end system (built using Microsoft Access) to add and edit specific course details.

In order to keep information current on the portal we have added an RSS feed for news and events.
