The brief

The Project needed a website that would help them educate people about rainforest issues, which they could update at any time, but that would be low maintenance.

They also wanted to use the site to "recruit" supporters, and get them to pledge to help where possible.

The solution

We built the site using Joomla, a leading content management system.

News articles are automatically fetched from other sites, so the site has constantly updated news with little effort. These news articles are approved by the Project staff before publication, to ensure their suitability. They can also write their own articles if they wish.

Supporters of the project are encouraged to sign up through the website. This process has been kept as simple as possible - there are only 4 "required" fields - to achieve the maximum possible sign-up rate.

If they wish, however, supporters can select a number of pledges, to show how they will support the project. They can log in to see or update these at any time.

The Alberon Bulkmailer is used to send regular newsletters to supporters, to keep rainforest issues in their minds and to update them on the progress of The Project.

Further development work

Since the site went live, we have continued to work closely with Espace Solutions and The Prince's Rainforests Project. In September 2008, The Prince's Rainforests Project For Schools site was launched. This site includes the ability for schools to upload photos, videos and documents created by their pupils, which are then showcased on the site.

Together we have also created a blog for them, and the site has been translated into Portugese, French, and Spanish.

Update: April 2009

In April 2009, in accordance with a long-term plan, the main Prince's Rainforests Project site was replaced with a new site built by the American company Blue State Digital - the company whose software supported Barack Obama's presidential election support campaign.

Alberon continue to maintain the schools site, which is based on the original site but with an updated design.
