Stowe School Alumni Members Area

Stowe School, one of Alberon’s existing clients, wanted an area of their website available exclusively to their alumni.

The Brief

Stowe wanted an improvement on their existing basic members area. The purpose of this section of the site was to encourage alumni (‘Old Stoics’) to communicate business opportunities with each other as well as provide other information. A full, searchable list of all the alumni on record since the school’s inception in the 1920’s, as well as the full catalogue of Stowe School Magazines were needed.

It was important that the area matched up well with the rest of the site and allowed users already logged in to easily access and share information.

The Solution

Alberon built a fast, engaging site that encouraged alumni interaction. It included a custom import of alumni from the School’s proprietary data storage system via spreadsheets, a business directory, job vacancies and CV listings pages, along with forms to add content to these, an approval process for this, a fully searchable register of all the alumni in the school’s history, and finally an archive to browse the entire Stowe magazine back catalogue.

With the Stowe magazines, Optical Character Recognition is used to scan uploaded magazine PDFs for keywords. These keywords are stored in a search index, which means that the entire archive can be scanned for keywords from a single place, and find text within the PDFs themselves.
