Top2Bottom Down Under
A website for John Vaughan-Fowler, who is cycling across Australia to raise money for charity.
The brief
John Vaughan-Fowler, 49, is raising money for charity by cycling some two-thousand-four-hundred miles across Australia! He asked Alberon for a website he could access via his Blackberry phone, through which he could accept donations (there aren't many - any? - internet cafes where John's going!).
He wanted the facility for site-users to be able to track his progress across the country on a map; also, administration allowing him to post diary updates and photographs to the site, documenting his journey.
The solution
The website includes a blog, a guestbook, an image gallery, and a map updated by a GPS device so that visitors can follow John's trip across Australia in real time.
John wanted the blog and image gallery features so he could keep his followers updated with news and pictures from his journey.
Perhaps most importantly, visitors are able to make donations through the website to John's chosen charities, The Roald Dahl Foundation and the Parkinson's Disease Society.
Technical notes
The award winning open source content management system CMS Made Simple was used. We implemented widgets provided by Just Giving to accept donations.
